I see blue and green raindrops Fall on a red and white sea And a long tailed blue fox Seems to be following me And my legs are slow Like I’m wading through treacle I can’t seem to run Just as fast as other people I want to shout out but I’m just tongue tied I could have sworn you were with me here by my side But you’re not there, so what does it mean? Can’t seem to wake up from this crazy dream I usually don’t mind spiders If you’re right here by my side But I mind very much If they’re eight feet wide I look in the mirror My hair has turned green And I’m telling myself This had better be a dream There’s a mole on my face That wasn’t there before You know I’d run out of here If I could only find the door I wake up in the morning Pillows and blankets in a heap But then I realize I’m really still asleep

Mr Hawking 04:52
The hand of fate struck the cruelest blow And suddenly faced with an unknown foe A new existence befell your future But you survived and you grew in stature Circumstances never pulled you under You gazed at stars with a childish wonder In the face of adversity, a voracious curiosity Leading by example, in your own quiet way You were an inspiration, to so many every single day Mr Hawking x4 You lived your life, you made your mark And found a way through from the dark What happens in life’s ebb and flow Determines all the things we know A constellation of surprises, some big, some small, all shapes and sizes We marveled at your ability, to make us embrace infinity Leading by example, in your own quiet way You were an inspiration, to so many every single day Mr Hawking x4 Solving scientific mystery, presenting time as a brief history We marveled at your lofty goals When we saw stars, you saw black holes Gravitation and quantum theory, were explored by a mind never weary You changed the view on gravity, in a word: Singularity Leading by example, in your own quiet way You were an inspiration, to so many every single day Mr Hawking x4

A skyward tail, as I slowly strut Observe my grace, you stupid little mutt You think you rule but hold on, wait I think I need to put you in your place And as for you, my so called owner Don’t you get that I’m a loner? I’m a cat okay? I’m a feline queen I’m a cat okay? And I’m sleek and mean This used to be a dog-free zone Now that interloper, just won’t leave me alone Well you’re Okay but I don’t like your wife Now I get why you call her trouble and strife When she shops she buys cheap brands But when you go, you get tastier cans I’m a cat okay? I’m a feline queen I’m a cat okay? And I’m sleek and mean You doze to the TV like a bump on a log But tell me please, when do we lose the dog? I always used to be first on the sofa But now I’m usurped by that canine loafer This space is mine but it makes me bilious This situation is making me supercilious I’m a cat okay? I’m a feline queen I’m a cat okay? And I’m sleek and mean ROAR!

A cup of coffee in a cool café People-watching as they hurry by Half conversations about meeting so-and-so If only they weren’t living on the fly They’ve got a book full of foolproof excuses For not doing what they oughta A generation living life too fast Mother, Father and Son and Daughter (Take) A final sip, leave my tip with the tab Setting out to see what this day brings I tell myself that it’s time to take the time To enjoy the simple things Kicking off my shoes I go barefoot in the park Surrounded by a symphony of birds They’re singing for the couple sitting on the new mown grass With looks that say “I love you” more than words And oh the peace and how the joy overwhelms me Till I’m feeling intoxicated And all those things that I believed that I needed In this moment, seem overrated A summer shower, through the leaves begins to fall See the couple running for the swings I hear them laughing as the rain then starts to pour While me I’m loving life and simple things Oh me I’m loving life and simple things (Instrumental) A cup of coffee in a cool café When Life has got you running round in rings Don’t forget to take the time to make the time Just to find joy in simple things mmm Try to find the joy in simple things ohh Loving life and silly simple things

Welcome my good friend Let me pour you a drink Do you want to talk? Or sit and do nothing? I know that all your troubles Been playing on your mind But don’t think you’re a victim Or a slave to being kind Take the weight right off, are you hungry? I’ll get us something to eat Don’t you know your worth? With everyone you meet? Not too long ago My troubles had no end But you were there for me Showed the value of a friend So good to see you friend I’m glad you like the wine Now you’ve opened up The floodgates of my mind Not too long ago My troubles had no end But you were there for me Showed the value of a friend Talk to me, talk to me, walk with me, walk with me… Not too long ago My troubles had no end But you were there for me Showed the value of a friend

The Hat 04:23
1970 was hot, but aged 20 I was not And though the world was dry, the music made me high And thank you Mr Fagen, for the inspiration And you too Mr Becker, you could not do better You’re never going to do it without the hat on I’ll ask myself which one I’ll wear today A natural groove, that you both sat on With the Royal Scam you really showed the way I was reelin’ in the years, when I had tears for fears Tried not to lose that number, that Rikki made me wonder And though I was kind of raw, I was filled with awe Then the next thing to see, was a countdown to ecstasy You’re never going to do it without the hat on I’ll ask myself which one I’ll wear today A natural groove, that you both sat on With the Royal Scam you really showed the way If this band was a car, you know it has travelled far I’d be driving a Stingray, to the caves of Altamera With a song on the radio, do it again I know The songs will stay with me, and keep me feeling free You’re never going to do it without the hat on I’ll ask myself which one I’ll wear today A natural groove, that you both sat on With the Royal Scam you really showed the way X 2

When I wasn’t very old You kept us warm when we were cold You’ll be forever in our memories When we had fears you made us bold When times were hard you soldiered on Never threatening our bond Your love of family unbreakable Our precious memories live on You had a smile, to brighten a cloudy day Your love of fun infectious Rock solid come what may You had devotion in your eyes When we were fools you made us wise Your love of family unshakable You gave us love that never dies Solos You lived through war when you were young Terrified of bombs and guns You had such courage and resilience In a world devoid of fun When it was dark you shone your light Avoiding wrongs and doing right Your precious treasure was our family Your memory is shining bright So many friends, will miss your easy style Your readiness for laughter Most of all, your lovely smile Now we’ve said our goodbyes Now that we’ve all dried our eyes Your love of family unshakeable You gave us love that never dies (X3)

The Kite 04:21
Heavy hearted and head in hands I was sitting by the bay When I saw a little child running ‘cross the sand The music of his laughter Helped to ease my cares away Then I noticed the piece of string he held in his hand On the other end a diamond of red and gold Was tracing crazy patterns up in the sky It seemed as if I was watching my life unfold As it flew down low and then soared up so high Chorus: I guess Life is a little like a kite You never know if it’s gonna blow to the left or right Upside down, it spins you around and then Dances with you for a while Then let’s you go again Middle 8: Wrapped in the glow of the evening sun Feeling my troubles come undone Watching them melting one by one Like water in the sand Lighter of heart I lift my head To that dancing diamond of gold and red Whirling in circles overhead And now I understand Chorus: Oh that Life is a little like a kite You never know if it’s gonna blow to the left or right Upside down, it spins you around and then Dances with you for a while Then let’s you go again Dances with you for a while Then let’s you go again Dances with you for a while Then let’s you go again

Tell Her So 03:01
Time will pass you by my friend, If you always wait for blue sky It’s the chances that you take And the promises you make There’s just one life to live You owe it to yourself to give If you really love her Tell her so Don’t you mess around When there’s happiness to be found There’s a look in her eye Her expression cannot lie Opportunities are rare You only have one life to share If you really love her Tell her so I saw her last Monday She asked me what you had to say I told her that I’d talk to you You know a broken heart can start anew There’s just one life to live You owe it to yourself to give If you really love her Tell her so

about

The Positive Songs Project, for the uninitiated, was devised and implemented by the award-winning and recognised songwriting talents of Lobelia Lawson and Richard Lomax at the onset of the CV19 lockdown in March 2020. To date, there have been 2 phases, the first inviting artists to the challenge of recording and submitting one song per week for ten weeks with a Wednesday deadline. The principal rule in phase 1 was that the work must be original but could either be a vocal or an instrumental. There was a healthy response to this globally and some outstanding works emerged, with several people creating a 10 track album of work under the PSP title.
Phase 2 was introduced shortly after that but this time the challenge was extended to not only submit 10 items in 10 weeks but to write to a series of 10 briefs, in no particular order. For example, 'write a song about, or from the perspective of an animal...'; 'write a song using only 3 chords'; 'collaborate with another PSP member... '. To some, some of these briefs appeared quite daunting, but I found I was able to rise to the challenge and persevered to ensure I had completed the 10 briefs within each deadline. I hope you enjoy the works as much as I enjoyed creating them.
